June 21, 2021

On Saturday, June 12, 2021, at 12:00 p.m., the Guivy Zaldastanishvili American Academy in Tbilisi hosted its seventeenth Annual Graduation Ceremony at the Lisi campus.
This year, the American Academy graduated seventy-three students.
Andrés J. Cruz, Director of the American Academy, delivered the commencement address. Among those invited was Ambassador Kelly C. Degnan of the US Embassy in Tbilisi and Academy trustees. Due to her hectic schedule, Ambassador Kelly was unable to attend the event in person but was gracious enough to send virtual remarks to the graduates of the American Academy.
The Thomas and Faculty Medals were presented to two of the seventy-three graduates: Andria Gogorishvili (The Thomas Medal), “the senior who has exemplified exemplary character and scholarship throughout their time at the GZAAT,”– and Tekle Khmiadashvili (The Faculty Medal), “the student whose love of learning, intellectual curiosity, and strength of character have enriched our lives as teachers and affirmed our belief in the sanctity of education.”
Maia (Masho) Lortkipanidze was this year's Valedictory speaker for the 2021 class.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, the graduates sang the school's hymn for the final time.
The class of 2021 received 186 acceptance letters from colleges and universities all across the world, as well as more than $2.5 million in scholarships and financial aids.
